Ukraine’s air defenses are struggling against numerous threats despite recent military aid of $61 billion. President Zelenskyy’s request for more Patriot batteries won’t solve the issue as Ukraine lacks the necessary systems. Additional Patriots would be costly and ineffective as Russia exploits Ukraine’s vulnerability. The U.S. can’t produce interceptors in large quantities like Russia can with drones and missiles.
Washington should focus on diplomatic efforts to push for a ceasefire instead of relying on military aid. Ukraine is facing an artillery disadvantage, manpower shortages, and localized Russian superiority. Ukraine’s best chance for negotiations is now; every day weakens their position. Military aid won’t change the conflict’s outcome, and direct intervention could lead to nuclear war. Ukraine needs diplomatic solutions more than additional weapons.
