Sudanese volunteer rescuers reported four children were among 20 people killed in an army air strike in the capital Khartoum Tuesday. This incident added to the dozens killed in Al-Jazira state since Sunday. The strike wounded 27 people, leaving bodies “charred” as reported by the emergency response room in Khartoum. Fierce clashes ignited in Al-Jazira state after a paramilitary commander defected to the army, resulting in the deaths of more than 50 people.
In Wad Madani, an army air strike on a mosque killed 31 people on Sunday. Various groups like the emergency response rooms and resistance committees have been providing life-saving aid for civilians affected by the ongoing conflict between Sudan’s regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023. The war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the world’s largest displacement and humanitarian crises.
The rival armed forces are fighting for control of Al-Jazira state, which has been under paramilitary control. The army announced high-profile defections from the RSF, leading to retaliatory attacks. RSF troops were reported rampaging through Tamboul, looting and shooting randomly. Both sides have been accused of war crimes, including targeting civilians and looting aid.
Anonymously, a paramilitary source shared that the RSF repelled an army attempt to regain control of Tamboul. Paramilitary attacks in various villages resulted in at least 20 deaths. The paramilitaries have been carrying out vengeful operations against defenseless civilians in response to defections. At least seven towns and villages have been affected by these attacks according to the Central Observatory for Human Rights.
